  License/certification:
 Must maintain a Wisconsin license to practice Veterinary Medicine.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Board certified or board eligible with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Candidate must have a documented track record of academic productivity or have demonstrated potential to develop an independent research program in a basic or clinically-orientated research field relevant to large animal medicine.

Aptitude and/or experience in clinical instruction of DVM students, interns, and residents are also expected.
Principal duties:
Faculty in the tenure track at the University of Wisconsin are expected to pursue an academic research program in a field that is relevant to their chosen clinical specialty. The successful candidate will also participate in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students and residents, and in continuing education programs. The individual is expected to provide leadership in directing research projects of residents and graduate students. The successful candidate will participate in the clinical activities of the hospital including patient care, instruction and supervision of veterinary students, interns, and residents, consultation with referring veterinarians and clients, and emergency service. Approximately 750 large animal medicine patients are evaluated annually. The current case-load is comprised of approximately 70% horses, 30% food animal (principly dairy cattle) and a small number of camelids and other farm animal species. For those candidates seeking promotion with excellence in research, the distribution of time in research, clinical service, didactic/laboratory/ graduate teaching, and other service is expected to be approximately 50%, 25%, 20%, and 5% respectively. Opportunity also exists for a tenure track candidate with outreach as the primary area of excellence, with collaborations possible with the Food Animal Production Medicine and Dairy Science units on campus.

The position is offered at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, depending on qualifications and is available as soon as a suitable candidate is identified.

 This vacancy is being announced simultaneously with PVL 96794; please note that only one vacancy exists. Having two position vacancy listings allows the School of Veterinary Medicine to consider candidates with both tenure-track faculty credentials and non-tenure-track faculty credentials for this position.

Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist within the School of Veterinary Medicine and the UW-Madison campus. The School of Medicine & Public Health, the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and the Biotechnology Center are located within a short distance of the School of Veterinary Medicine on the UW-Madison campus. A close relationship also exists with the Wisconsin State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory which is located within the same footprint on-campus as the School of Veterinary Medicine.
