Professor of Social Work, Child Welfare
Official Title:
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR(C30NN) or ASSISTANT PROFESSOR(C40NN)
Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. required in Social Work or a related field by the start of the appointment. M.S.W. and professional social work experience are preferred. An area of specialization in child maltreatment, child protective services, and/or child welfare systems is required.
 
  
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
An ability to teach in all program levels (i.e., undergraduate, master's, doctoral) is required. Prior teaching experience preferred. Applicants should show evidence of the potential for or demonstrated excellence in teaching. Applicants should show evidence of an ability to achieve excellence in a program of research related to child maltreatment, child protective services, and/or child welfare systems. The School of Social Work is committed to advancing diversity in scholarship, instruction, and engagement at all levels. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in their cover letter and indicate their experience, current interest or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

Appointment at the tenured level requires evidence of excellence in scholarly research, with strong value also placed on teaching and service, and requires review by the Social Sciences Divisional Tenure Committee. Candidates for associate professor must meet criteria for appointment per UW guidelines for appointment and promotion.
Principal duties:
Principal duties include establishing a state-of-the-art research program, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the School of Social Work, the university, and the profession. The successful candidate will work to proactively support the expansion of diversity among all components of the School, and ensure an inclusive, fair, and equitable environment that fosters engagement.
  Additional Information
 The School of Social Work is comprised of faculty and staff who work collaboratively to provide a high quality education and professional growth experiences for students. The School has several educational programs, and candidates will be expected to teach courses in social work across these programs. We are committed to providing a strong generalist orientation for BSW and first-year MSW students. We provide an advanced generalist focus with the second year MSW students to further advance their knowledge, skills, and professional integrity in generalist practice and allow for several areas of focus. We are committed to a very high-quality PhD program in social welfare and also to an undergraduate major in social welfare (a BA, different from our BSW). The School values the many strengths that diversity brings to our profession, and is committed to contributing to the diversification of the social work profession. As part of that, the School aims to foster a climate of inclusion for all faculty, students, and staff; it is expected that instructors will have the ability and motivation to teach and mentor diverse students.
