Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, genetics, chemistry, physiology or related field is required.
 
  
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
At least one (1) year of experience working in a biomedical research laboratory is required. Experience with mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique and basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA cloning and plasmid purifications is required. Additional skills in electrophysiology, protein purification, immunostaining and Western blotting are preferred. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are required.
Principal duties:
The qualified applicant will contribute to a highly collaborative group studying ion channel biology using electrophysiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microscopy and biophysical approaches. Duties include, but not limited to: mammalian cell culture, DNA/RNA purification, quantitative RT-PCR, PCR, western blotting, DNA cloning, and membrane protein biochemisty. Expectations include a high level of organization, maintaining a well-documented lab notebook and freezer inventory, analyzing and presenting data, and the ability to work well in a team. Other responsibilities include participation in regular lab meetings, journal club, laboratory organization, documentation and regulatory compliance.
