Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or in a closely related area required prior to start of appointment.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Appointment at the tenured level requires evidence of excellence in scholarly research, teaching and service and requires review by the university's Physical Sciences Divisional Committee. Preference for full professor appointment will be given to individuals active in the dataficaton of human knowledge. Tenure-track candidates must show potential for developing outstanding and highly visible scholarly research as well as excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and service as appropriate.
Principal duties:
Principal duties include individual and classroom teaching of computer science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Advising and mentoring graduate students majoring in computer science or related area is required. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a strong scholarly research program in the field of computer science leading to publication at the national and international level. University and professional service required as appropriate for faculty rank.

 The Department of Computer Sciences is among the oldest and top ranked CS departments in the world, renowned for its groundbreaking research in computer architecture, database systems, distributed and grid computing, nonlinear optimization, and many other areas of computer science. It has a strong track record of support of transformative research and building large-scale computing infrastructures such as HTCondor and CloudLab. More recently, the department has been engaged in new interdisciplinary programs and centers including the Wisconsin Institutes of Discovery (WID) and the Wisconsin Institute on Software-defined Datacenters of Madison (WISDoM). The department has also been beneficiary of significant donations aimed at supporting the department's research and educational mission.
