Position Summary:
Serves as the institutional Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy compliance officer. Develops institution-wide policies in coordination with the HIPAA Security Officer and the HIPAA Operations Committee. Maintains compliance data and oversees the HIPAA Privacy compliance program and affiliated staff. Develops and delivers training, monitors institutional risk, and communicates risk and remediation strategies to leadership to ensure compliance with institutional policies and HIPAA.

Principal duties:
- Directs operational activities and staffing resources for HIPAA compliance implementation, including outreach, support and/or investigations (25%)
- Develops and maintains institutional policies and procedures to ensure HIPAA compliance (15%)
- Oversees, develops and participates in activities designed to raise awareness of HIPAA and its purpose (15%)
- Leads investigation and incident response regarding reports of potential breaches of protected health information (15%)
- Serves as a subject matter expert for affiliated matters for internal stakeholders and representatives of external organizations as appropriate with regard to contract reviews, training development, and/or development of research protocols (15%)
- Provides guidance and oversight to university personnel regarding compliance, policies, and procedures (10%)
- Coordinates issuance of legally required notifications on behalf of UW-Madison (5%)
