Position Summary:
Join the fun and fast-paced pharmacy environment, supporting the animal patients of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC)! Launch your career by providing technical support to the in-patient and out-patient activities at UWVC. The position requires knowledge of sterile product preparation, appropriate drug therapy uses, product identification (human vs. veterinary), problem-solving abilities and communication skills. The incumbent must be able to function independently in the full realm of technical responsibilities, as well as in interactions with UWVC clients and clinicians. The position functions under the supervision of a UWVC Pharmacist.

Principal duties:
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

60% - Receives, accurately measures, and labels medications based on prescription requests
15% - Prepares and compounds sterile and non-sterile preparations
10% - Serves as an initial point of contact for customers, provides information, and processes prescription transactions according to established policies and procedures
10% - Enters, audits, and amends prescription information and patient information in database and maintains patient records and medication inventory in accordance with regulatory policies and procedures
5% - Retrieve items and restocks automatic dispensing cabinets

TASKS:

1. Completes pharmacy opening and closing checklists
2. Prepares and compounds sterile medications for inpatient and outpatient use
3. Compounds non-sterile medications for inpatient and outpatient use
4. Prepares chemotherapy medications following University, UPS, and OSHA guidelines for preparation and disposal
5. Fills and orders prescription and non-prescription diets
6. Provides clients with information on refills, pricing and pharmacy policies
7. Work with purchasing office to order medications to meet the needs of the pharmacy and hospital
8. Completes pharmacy annual inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies
9. Triage phone calls from clients requesting refills and/or changes to medications
10. Restocks all supplies in the pharmacy and pharmacy cleanrooms
11. Helps maintain pharmacy inventory to ensure product availability
12. Orders items from Central Supply
13. Assists with filing of prescriptions, automated dispensing cabinet documentation, etc.
14. Communicates professionally and effectively with UWVC clients and UWVC personnel
15. Replenishes hospital department and ward stock
