Position Summary:
The L&S Instructional Design Center (IDC) serves the UW-Madison College of Letters & Science, which is a diverse community of departments, programs, centers, and institutes dedicated to fulfilling UW-Madison's core educational mission and furthering the Wisconsin Idea. The IDC provides technology facilities, services, and support to L&S faculty and staff. We are committed to providing the highest levels of service in a collaborative, mutually supportive work environment.

As an instructional designer with the L&S Instructional Design Center, you will be joining a group of dedicated professionals who work together to advance high-quality learning. As a team, we partner with instructors to develop blended and online courses, produce educational media, integrate technology tools, and more. The majority of your duties will be related to instructional design and content development for online and blended learning initiatives.

Principal duties:
In this position, you will partner with instructors to creatively and effectively design high-quality online and blended courses. Duties to include:
45% Instructional Design Support
1. Partner with instructors and IDC colleagues to plan and design online and blended courses that meet L&S academic standards.
2. Apply current instructional design methodologies and evidence-based practices for online and blended learning.
3. Facilitate the process of selecting appropriate campus-supported learning technologies that promote interactive content delivery and advance active learning within courses and projects.
4. Establish content production workflows that achieve L&S online learning standards, suit individual instructor needs, align with proper teaching methods in the academic discipline, and appropriately support the fulfillment of specified course objectives.
5. Collaborate with the IDC team and other campus partners to create and support faculty development programs on learning technology and digitally-enhanced pedagogy topics.

45% Content & Media Development
1. Develop and structure course materials (interactive lectures, quizzes, assignments, discussion forums, etc.) using Canvas LMS, HTML, and other digital tools.
2. Support the creation of high-quality instructional media, leveraging IDC production facilities and campus services.
3. Apply universal design principles and ensure course materials comply with campus accessibility and copyright policies.

10% Design Coordination & Campus Collaboration
1. Evaluate design processes and collaboratively plan iterative improvements to ensure modern and effective delivery of IDC online instructional design services.
2. Support the development of production schedules to meet deadlines, balance workloads, and accommodate collaborators from academic departments.
3. Represent L&S in relevant college and campus working groups, committees, and communities of practice.
4. Attend training sessions, campus events, and other professional development related to assigned projects and responsibilities.
