Position Summary:
This position provides technical support to the daily operational needs of the Radiology Section of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). The position requires advanced technical skills, independence of action, and initiative to coordinate and follow-through with technical responsibilities. Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1. Demonstrate advanced skills in several modalities within the radiology area (i.e. CT, nuclear medicine, MRI); responsible for maintenance of special equipment, instructing others in use and care, and assisting clinicians/students with procedures
2. Anticipate needs of clinicians/staff/students during procedures
3. Oversee, guide, and instruct students and clinicians in the area of diagnostic nuclear medicine studies and the aftercare of veterinary patients undergoing these studies
4. Contributes to and participates in team-building by assisting in problem-solving activities

Principal duties:
- Performs radiologic procedures as assigned adhering to prescribed techniques
- Follows prescribed techniques in administering general and specific x-rays, MRIs, or other radiologic scanning procedures. Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient/participant, adjusts lead shields to protect unaffected parts of the patient's/participant's body, adjusts cone to direct concentration of rays on specific area, and selects proper film
- Prepares, assesses, and observes patient/participant for procedures and possible reactions or outcomes
- Transports patients/participants within department, to and from waiting area, as required
- Processes images, film, and/or other scanning documentation in accordance to guidelines and radiographic technique. Performs quality control activities to ensure optimal quality radiographs
- Troubleshoots and reports equipment problems to supervisor
- Cleans and disinfects patient/participant rooms and equipment to maintain highest quality safety and cleanliness standards
