Position Summary:
The Influenza Research Institute (IRI) is an active and growing influenza research laboratory supporting cutting-edge research on negative-strand RNA viruses including influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and replication-deficient ebolavirus. The research group numbers over 30 including scientists, post-docs, technicians and grad students. We are looking for a Research Specialist who will characterize influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viruses and support other laboratory operations.

Principal duties:
Laboratory operation support duties (shared with others) include routine laboratory maintenance, maintaining inventories and supporting BSL3 activities including equipment oversight. Research duties will include standard molecular biology and virology procedures including the isolation, amplification, (sub)typing, sequencing, modification, and molecular characterization of wild-type and recombinant influenza viruses in vitro, in cultured cells, and in mice, hamsters, and ferrets. Some of these activities will require work in BSL-3 laboratories at the IRI. The individual in this position must have an aptitude for research and working with research animals, in addition to good communication skills. A willingness to support a research team is important.
