Position Summary:
The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 14 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

The science writer will focus on disseminating and promoting information to build public awareness of the Waisman Center's research and clinical development through press releases, web stories, newsletters, and social media. This position will also provide support for special events, various publicity efforts, conferences, facility tours, and other awareness mechanisms. The duties of this position are performed in collaboration with others in the Waisman Center Communications team.

Principal duties:
(75%) As a science writer, develop and disseminate Waisman Center-related information. Typical projects would include the following:
- Research, write, edit, and produce a wide variety of information on the Waisman Center for news releases, social media platforms, magazine articles, fact sheets, websites, booklets and other communications vehicles.
- In collaboration with Center investigators, proactively prepare and disseminate research results using multiple platforms.
- Develop content for newsletters and other means of communication for distribution to donors and community members.
- Participate in the development of media campaigns using local media to communicate the services and strengths of the Waisman Center, maintaining awareness and increasing exposure.
- Assist investigators and staff with their continuous improvement related to internal and external communications.
- Coordinate with Waisman Communications manager and University Communications regarding all projects and strategies that have the potential for positive and/or negative community relations.

(10%) As a member of the communications teams, support all events and outreach activities of the Waisman Center. These events help to build awareness related to the mission and clinical and research advancements of the Waisman Center.
- Assist Waisman Center activities with preparation and staffing.
- Help disseminate information to relevant constituents and news media about events.

(10%) Contribute to Waisman Center social media presence and update website as needed.
- Research and prepare content in identified areas of need for the website.
- Coordinate timely posting of news stories, publications and relevant materials, making routine updates as needed.
- Contribute to and maintain a social media strategy to further develop the Center's presence.

(5%) Assist with public relations efforts to further the academic/training, service, research, and outreach missions of the Waisman Center.
- Lead public tours of the Waisman Center.
- Other duties as assigned.
