Position Summary:
The University of Wisconsin's Nutrient and Pest Management (NPM) Program works with farmers, researchers, agricultural professionals, and citizens to provide research-based agricultural nutrient and pest management education on crop production practices that protect water quality while promoting farm profitability and resilient landscapes. The program links farmers and researchers to exchange knowledge on the profitability, practicality, and environmental impact of crop production practices and cropping systems.

Northwest Wisconsin is a region of the state with numerous soil and water conservation, nutrient management, and pest management challenges. This education and outreach position will address these issues. Additional resources are needed in this area to assist farmers in adopting improved agricultural management practices.

Principal duties:
The Northwest Wisconsin Nutrient & Pest Management Regional Outreach Specialists will:

(60%) Coordinate and deliver educational programs that promote the adoption of agricultural best management practices for protecting water quality while maintaining or improving farm profitability.
- Activities include educational workshops for training a variety of agricultural audiences, implementation of the nutrient management farmer education curriculum to audiences throughout the assigned region in Wisconsin, on-farm demonstrations of research-proven practices, on-farm nutrient and pest management planning education (topics such as soil sampling, manure spreader calibration, soil health, weed and insect resistance management, regulatory compliance, etc.).
- Educate others on the SnapPlus nutrient management planning software program.
- Work in conjunction with farmers, rural landowners, county UW-Extension agents, UW campus-based specialists, county conservation staff, agribusinesses, and others to deliver the programs mentioned above.

(15%) Conduct on-farm research and demonstration in conjunction with UW-Extension specialists and county-based staff to assist individual producers and farmer-led watershed groups.

(10%) Provide technical assistance to county-based UW-Extension and conservation staff, agri-businesses, and other clients within their assigned region of Wisconsin regarding nutrient and pest management practices.

(15%) Other duties include:
- Regular coordination and collaboration of activities with colleagues in the Nutrient & Pest Management (NPM) Program, UW System faculty and specialists, Cooperative Extension faculty and staff.
- Coordinate with Madison-based staff on the production of a variety of media materials including Extension-style publications, videos, website content, mobile applications, etc.
- Collaborate with NPM staff in grant development and assist in meeting accountability requirements such as accomplishment reporting, evaluation, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
