Position Summary:
The Research Specialist will work in the Hess Lab in the UW-Madison Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine. The focus of the laboratory is high-throughput functional human genomics. The successful applicant will contribute to research using CRISPR-mediated genome editing in mammalian cells to investigate DNA repair mechanisms, pathogenic effectors, and therapeutic responses as well as develop novel genome-editing technologies and pooled screening platforms.

Principal duties:
This position will be involved in laboratory administrative tasks including purchasing, inventory, maintaining supplies and equipment, organization, supervision of student workers, as well as biological safety protocols. (40%)

Additionally, duties will include implementing research techniques defined by others and carrying out components of research projects under supervision. These techniques include molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, and preparation of next-generation sequencing libraries (50%).

Other related administrative and research duties may be assigned by the PI and senior laboratory staff depending on the needs of the research team in the Hess lab. (10%)
