Position Summary:
The Associate Director is the administrative program manager for the Holtz Center, a 20-year old interdisciplinary center that seeks to build a thriving community for research, teaching, and outreach related to science and technology studies. In addition to day-to-day administration of ongoing programs, the Associate Director will contribute to the Center's teaching mission by teaching one STS course per year, and will support the Faculty Director and Steering Committee in identifying new areas for growth and advancement.

The Associate Director is expected to stay up-to-date with developments in the field of Science and Technology Studies as part of their teaching and programmatic responsibilities.

The ideal candidate holds a doctoral degree in STS or a related field and has experience in academic program management. Strong preference will be given to those interested in building local and regional infrastructure for STS research, teaching, and outreach over the long term.

Principal duties:
45%: Education

- teach 1 STS course/year

- Manage the undergraduate Integrated in Science, Engineering & Society certificate emphasizing high-impact practice programming and events, curriculum development and implementation.

-Provide full advising resources and services for students in the ISSuES certificate and STS Ph.D. minor; provide information about course selection, academic requirements and research opportunities; communicate directly with students regarding all aspects of the recruitment, application, and exit processes.

-Lead the implementation of academic programs; work with stakeholders across campus to coordinate course coverage and other opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students; manage annual student award programs.

-Work with the Faculty Director and Steering Committee to develop new academic programs.

-Evaluate academic programs and strategy; make recommendations for changes and enhancements to director and steering committee.

-Hire, supervise and evaluate teaching assistants and instructional staff as needed.

30%: Administration

-Manage the Holtz Center's operating budget and UW Foundation funds; maintain financial records, process award and other payments.

-Hire, supervise, approve hours and evaluate administrative staff.

-Work with Faculty Director and Steering Committee to identify, propose, and implement new or revised policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and program objectives; create and maintain all necessary records.

-Assist affiliates with preparing and/or maintaining documentation, financial management and/or reporting requirements related to sponsored grants as needed.

25%: Program Development

- Develop and implement campus and external programming; make all schedule, travel and other required logistical arrangements.

- Serve as the liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups to identify and maintain academic and program-related partnerships; represent the Holtz Center to stakeholders in the absence of the director.
