Position Summary:
The Assay Services Unit at the WNPRC is seeking a highly motivated individual to participate in the high throughput analyses of human and nonhuman primate hormonal samples. Assay Services is one of five research service units at the WNPRC, and focuses on the development, validation, and analysis of biological samples for a wide variety of hormones, neurotransmitters, and biomarkers for nonhuman and human primate research. The lab serves primate research on the UW - Madison campus and from universities through the United States, as well as internationally. Assay Services is also a Core Lab for the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) at UW - Madison. The majority of the work will entail a background in neuroendocrinology, biochemistry or chemistry.

Principal duties will include setting up solvent extractions and running biological samples for HPLC with mass spectrometry, ultraviolet and electrochemical detection (80%). Incumbent will be responsible for setting up HPLC and mass spectrometry equipment (20%). Duties will also include statistical analyses, computer record-keeping, and use of Excel and graphic programs.

Principal duties:
The Research Specialist develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-Conducts research experiments, collects, analyzes, and interprets data and documents results according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s)
-Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area
-Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
-Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
-Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
-Performs literature reviews, presents materials to internal and external audiences, and may participate in writing publications
