Position Summary:
The Director of Investigator Support Services is responsible for developing and enhancing pathways for faculty to successfully engage in investigator-initiated clinical research within the academic health system (AHS) and establishing streamlined and documented processes for navigating the local research infrastructure and approval requirements. Further, the director ensures consistent messaging and communication with clinical research teams, health system partners, and other stakeholders. This position has dual functional reporting lines to the Chief Clinical Research Officer and Executive Director of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) with whom the position will interact jointly. The incumbent will participate as an active member of ICTR and the clinical trials leadership teams, representing their combined interests by participating in strategic planning, goal setting, and implementation of the infrastructure, processes and systems to support efficient and high-quality clinical research at UW-Madison and UW Health.

Principal duties:
40%
- Directing teams to facilitate Investigator success through the maintenance and provision of centralized research infrastructure, support services, and clinical research networks, including the Midwest Area Research Consortium for Health (MARCH) WINHR and TIN. Continuously develops leadership skills through mentoring, coaching and formal educational opportunities.
- Critically assesses skills of direct reports and develops plans to address growth and performance issues. Assess needs and redeploy effort of direct reports and per strategic planning and facilitate team functioning.
- Communicating with clinical research investigators and their research teams including multiple media sources by interfacing with CCRO and ICTR communications teams.
- Developing processes that ensure customer focused technology utilization by streamlining communication between CCRO office and CHI2 office. Working closely with Senior Director of Clinical Trials Integration/Medical Science Liaison in the Office of Clinical Trial Accreditation/Clinical Research Officer to foster industry relationships and marketing, as requested.

- Promoting research acculturation within the AHS. Interfaces with media and internal communication teams at UW Health to improve research awareness and effect cultural change for staff and patient populations. Ensures that newsworthy research topics are brought to media relations at both SMPH/UW Health that may impact both industry and lay media and serves as research liaison to media.

- Working with SMPH leaders in Clinical Trials and supervising ICTR Patient and Clinical Interactions Team to support a community of practice (COP) in investigator-initiated clinical trials. One metric of the successful COP will be the increase in Key Opinion Leaders in areas of strategic importance for ICTR.

- Supporting clinical research compliance through the ICTR Data Monitoring Core, and the Data Safety Monitoring Board of the Midwest Area Consortium for Health (MARCH) and the Scientific Review Committee. Act as a liaison between ICTR/CCRO/CHI2/BERD to facilitate access to data coordination, analysis and create synergy.

- Serving as key member of the Clinical Trials Accreditation Team, leading initiatives that will prepare the institution for accreditation, including SOPs and study start-up policy.
