Position Summary:
The Scientist will work with the Principal Investigator in research related to hematopoiesis and inherited predisposition to cancer in the UW Laboratory of Jane Churpek, MD, MS at the UW CarboneCancer Center. The laboratory research focuses on understanding the role of germline genetics in normal hematopoiesis and predisposition to bone marrow failure and cancer. The position requires the ability to perform tasks independently and with minimal supervision. Collaborations with other laboratories and investigators within the Section and Department and outside the institution are routine.

Principal duties:
1) 55% -- Maintaining mouse colony, performing necropsies for histology review, and performing in vitro and in vivo hematopoiesis assays. Performing various laboratory techniques such as RNA and DNA extractions, real time PCR, genotyping, immunoblotting, siRNA, cell culture, cloning, flow cytometry, RNA Seq library preparations and data analysis, Southern blotting, and other in vitro cell based assays.
2) 15% -- Laboratory management including ordering and maintaining laboratory supply stocks, maintaining laboratory safety requirements, oversight of students and other laboratory trainees.
3) 15% -- Process and maintain repository of clinical samples.
4) 15% -- Collate and analyze data. Maintain accurate, up-to-date and well-documented records of procedures performed and data generated. Summarize results and assist in interpreting findings including analysis of DNA sequencing. Prepare figures and assist in drafting manuscripts.
