Job Summary:This position is responsible for providing veterinary technical support to the WisCARES program through the School of Veterinary Medicine. This position will work primarily with canine and feline patients, with some exotic animal patients.


Goals and Worker Activities

A.100%Technical support to the WisCARES program.
1.Oversee and assure high quality nursing care is administered and maintained in the primary care of animal patients.
2.Participate in instruction of veterinary students and training of future veterinary technicians.
3.Monitor veterinary student participation in patient receiving and care, initiate changes and lend assistance when needed.
4.Assist clinical veterinary medical team in problem solving activities and administrative tasks.
5. Participate and understand the importance of working as a team member within the clinic structure (i.e. communicaton with supervisor and clinicians for enhancing productivity and quality patient care._
6.Demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
7.Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8.Perform technical skills such as patient intake, history taking/brief PE, blood draws, vaccine administration, setting up and performing dental cleanings, dental and body radiographs, anesthesia induction and monitoring, assisting during surgical procedures and recovery, writing and filling prescriptions, simple laboratory tasks, and cleaning and organizing exam rooms and treatment areas.
