Chapter 15

Ethics, Political Activities, and Outside Employment

15.04

POLITICAL ACTIVITIES

Board of Regent Policy (89-8)
places certain restrictions on the political activities of unclassified employees.  During the hours when an employee is expected to be performing his or her scheduled university duties, unclassified employees are prohibited from campaigning activities, and soliciting or receiving political contributions.

If an unclassified employee enters a primary campaign, he or she, in consultation with the appropriate department chairperson and dean/director, will determine whether or not the activity will encroach on the performance of university duties.  A reduced-time appointment may be granted for the period of the primary campaign.  If elected, the unclassified employee may request a leave of absence.

Information for leave requests for unclassified employees seeking political office is located in Chapter 16.01 section III.
