INTER-INSTITUTIONAL RECRUITING PROTOCOL |
When an employing unit of the UW-Madison wishes to enter into employment negotiations with faculty, academic staff members, or limited appointees in another UW System institution, the official responsible for initiating the negotiations (e.g., department chairperson, dean, director, etc.) must first notify the appropriate vice chancellor of the other institution in writing.
Copies of the notification must also be sent to the UW-Madison Provost and the UW System Vice President-Academic Affairs.
The vice chancellors of both institutions must confer before a formal offer is extended.
After May 1, the vice chancellors must agree in writing before extending an offer for the following fiscal year.
If the "home" institution has already made a salary recommendation for the following fiscal year, and the transfer is lateral or a change in rank only, UW-Madison may not offer the person a higher salary.
Adjustments in salary are possible if the transfer involves a major change in duties and responsibilities.
