Call the Human Resources office for your department or division. If they cannot answer your question, they can contact the Classified Personnel Office to get the answer for you. Human Resources staff with questions should call CPO directly.
If an Oracle error (e.g., ORA-04062) or Forms error (e.g., FRM- 40735) appears, or the system behaves in some unusual fashion, document the screen, situation, and problem, including error number(s) and contact the DoIT Help Desk at -
If your workstation is a PC then you must have the correct version of JInitiator loaded on your machine. The OHR Applications page indicates the current version and has a link to the download site. To check your version of JInitiator, look at Start/Programs and review your program list. It is possible to have multiple versions of JInitiator, so even if the first one you see is not the desired version, version it may be further down the list.
If your workstation is a Macintosh, then you do not need JInitiator. However, you do need the correct version of Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ). The OHR Applications page also indicates the current version of MRJ and has a link to the download site. If your Mac has OS9 or higher operating system, then MRJ is standard software and does not need to be loaded.
Follow the instructions for printing a position description report. After displaying the the report in PDF format, do SAVE AS to save the report as a file on your workstation or in another accessible directory; SAVE AS can be done as a selection under FILE on the main menu or by pressing the floppy disk icon that displays on the Acrobat menu. Then send this file as an attachment to an email.
Another option is to use the 'Send Page' function from Navigator or 'Send/Page by Email' function in Internet Explorer. The browsers on your workstation must be configured properly for these functions to work. See your technical support staff.
There are various reasons why this is happening. First, close all CHRIS and browser windows. Then re-open the browser and logon to CHRIS again. If the problem persists, call the DoIT Help Desk. See above. Be sure to document any 'ORA-' or 'FRM-' error messages you may have seen.
There are various reasons why performance can degrade:
a. It may be a peak period of use for the system
b. The server may be having a temporary problem
c. If you have a Windows2000 operating system on your PC, there is an
additional possibility. You may experience very sluggish response after
accessing one of the OHR applications (PVL, PD, CHRIS) and then closing
all browser windows. If performance is very poor when re-opening Netscape
or Internet Explorer, open Task Manager (right click with the cursor in
an open area of the Task/Start bar at the bottom of you screen) and click
on the Processes tab. If the Image Name/Process called 'netscape.exe'
or 'iexplore.exe' has a CPU usage of high 80s or 90s, that is the culprit;
if so highlight 'netscape.exe' or 'iexplore.exe' and press the End Process
button. This will close all browser windows. Be sure to highlight the
correct process before ending it. Then you can open the browser again
and it should run normally.
a. In the text field labeled 'Find' at the top of the screen enter the initial alphanumeric character or characters of the list items you are looking for and press Enter or the 'Find' button at the bottom of the screen. The system will add a '%' to the characters you entered, do a search and return any items on the list that begin with those characters. Highlight the item you want and press Enter or the 'OK' button to select it.
b. If no items are found, the 'Find' field is blanked out and you can enter other characters on which to search.
c. If the initial search did return values, any further searches will look only in the subset created from that initial search. For instance, if you first did a find on titles that begin with 'pro', view that list, and then try to find all titles that begin with 'te', no items will be found. What you would need to do in this situation is to press 'Cancel' and then again press the dropdown button to refresh the searchable list.
d. If you want to find items based on characters not necessarily at the beginning of the field value, put a '%' before and after the characters you want to find. For example, if you want to find all titles that have 'rep' somewhere in the classification name, you would enter '%rep%' (without quotes).
Some of the scroll bars are built into the E-PD screens. However, if your monitor size and screen resolution are not within the screen design limits so that the entire screen cannot display, the presentation software will automatically add additional scroll bars so you can move to parts of the screen not displayed. This may also make some of the text on the screen and buttons unreadable since the words no longer fit in the designed area. Please see Application Screens.
First check your email for the note that was sent when you first created your E-PD Profile. That will have your logon name and password. If you can't find that or any paper record of it, contact your division HR representative who will contact the Classified Personnel Office.
Update your mouse driver either to the latest Intellipoint driver from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/download.asp, or to the latest Logitech driver if you have a Logitech mouse.
Was the LTE Applicant entered after the Transaction was originally submitted? If so the applicant has to be submitted separately and go through a separate approval process. Once the Applicant status (which is different from the Transaction status) is APPROVED, you can hire the person on IADS. Please see Special Instructions for LTE Positions and LTE Actions.
1.One of the most important tips is to remember to look at the list of open screens/records/windows under the Window option of the Menu bar. This will help users find all windows that are open but may be hidden or minimized.
2.One set of PD Summary, Goals, Activities, and Knowledge and Skills is needed for each title entered on Page 1 of the HR Transaction Authorization to Hire.
3. Submission, Rejection and Approval are only available when the HR Transaction is open in Edit mode.
4. If printing any of these Help screens from a browser, it is best to print while in Internet Explorer, rather than Netscape. Some text is truncated when using Netscape.
5. Department and division HR staff who will be creating HR Transactions instead of having supervisors create them may want to consider these options. (First review Who can view and update an HR Transaction.):
a. If there is no need for the supervisors to view the HR Transactions, HR staff can create and submit the PDs logging on through CHRIS-HR.
b. If there is a need for the supervisors to review and possibly update the HR Transactions, HR staff can create a CHRIS profile logging on through the supervisor logon screen, create the HR Transaction, and assign the supervisor(s) as proxy. Remember the logon name and password you create.
c. If there is a need for the supervisors to review the HR Transactions, but prevent them from updating them, as above, HR staff can create an CHRIS profile logging on through the supervisor logon screen, create the HR Transaction, and assign the supervisor(s) as proxy. However, here the HR Transaction should be submitted before asking the proxied supervisor to review it.
d. Remember that in b. and c. above, all supervisors who are proxies for your CHRIS logon profile will be able to see all HR Transactions created by that user. If this is not acceptable, a separate CHRIS profile, logon name, etc., can be created for each supervisor or group of supervisors.
e. Also remember that when HR staff submit HR
Transactions they have created, they are usually submitting the HR Transactions
to themselves for department or division approval.
