Title Specifications

Job Summary:The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) Human Resources Manager is a leader in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a service oriented culture within the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Department of Medicine (DOM). The DOM expects all aspects of HR services to reflect this principle and that the HR unit, under the leadership of the Manager, will lead the effective communication of DOM values throughout the department. The HR Manager will establish and lead a mission-centered, outcome-oriented team such that a culture of mutual support and respect is nurtured.

Under the general supervision of the Associate Administrator of the DOM, this position directs all human resources and payroll and benefits activities for the DOM. The UW Human Resource Manager supervises an HR team of six staff serving faculty in all University tracks, classified, project and limited term employees, student hourlies, fellows, residents, mid-level clinicians, and academic staff. Responsibilities for these employee types include: oversight and administration of employee on-boarding and departures, recruitment and selection, compliance (HIPAA, Caregiver Law credentialing, etc.), state and university policies and procedures, labor relations, wage and salary administration, interpretation of labor agreements, employee development, and recognition. This position also oversees the payroll processes to provide for accurate and timely processing of payroll, benefits counseling and applications.
