Job Summary:The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) with 350 staff, six divisions and a budget in excess of $35,000,000 serves as the public, environmental, and occupational health laboratory for the State of Wisconsin. WSLH is a public sector entity, attached to the University of Wisconsin, but with separate statutory authority. Its administrative and clinical laboratory functions are located in the heart of the UW-Madison campus; and its environmental and occupational health and information management functions located on the east side of Madison.

This position is part of the Environmental Health Division (EHD). The work of this Division has state and national impact on the health and well being of people and the places in which they live, work and play.

Under the close progressing to limited supervision of the Director of Environmental Microbiology, the incumbent will perform prep work, analysis and data management for externally funded research projects in the Water Microbiology Unit at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene, 2601 Agriculture Dr., Madison. In order to perform these tasks, the incumbent must be able to distinguish the different colors of the spectrum, be able to lift 50 pounds, and hold a Wisconsin driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the UW Office of Risk Management.

The employee in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in performing their daily work including the following: Demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisor, coworkers, and all customers. Provide constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement in a manner that is supportive of the State Laboratory of Hygiene and its mission. Use data collection tools as appropriate. Use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit. Present ideas, carry out assignments, and provide information as required. Participate in continuous learning through professional development activities.

A transcript conferring a four-year Bachelor's degree with a major in a health science field, e.g., Biology, etc. An official or copy of an official, transcript will be required prior to an offer of employment. The hours for this position are 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with weekend and holiday rotations. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
