7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday as assigned. Some mandatory overtime, change of shift hours, and temporary moves to other units may be necessary based on operational need.

Job Summary:Under general supervision of a Custodial Services Supervisor, provide day-to-day custodial services and perform lead worker duties to facilitate work performed by permanent Custodian, limited term and student employees in single student residence hall facilities. Implement work plans to provide emergency and scheduled custodial services. Respond to emergencies such as fires, fire alarms, and hazardous conditions. Meet customer service standards by working courteously and cooperatively with student residents, conference guests, and staff.

Provide support and assist as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.

University Housing is an essential services provider and all University Housing employees are part of this commitment to our residents and guests. University Housing is unique from many other state agencies and university departments because we cannot close as our services must be maintained at all times.

 

Goals and Worker Activities

A.20%Lead worker for crew of Custodians, limited term, and student employees.
1.Under the direction of the Custodial Services Supervisor, plan, assign, lead and inspect work of Custodian, limited term and student employees.
2.Under the direction of the Custodial Services Supervisor, train and enforce job requirements, proper equipment and product usage, and safety standards.
3.Receive messages for custodial/maintenance requests, assign the appropriate employees and refer to proper authority as needed.
4.In the absence of the Custodial Services Supervisor, ensure that work schedules are met and work assignments completed.
5.Review and report work progress of the crew to the Custodial Services Supervisor.
6.In accordance with instructions provided by, and in the absence of, the Custodial Services Supervisor, reassign work or staff within the area to cover for staff absences.
7.Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request necessary supplies.
8.In the absence of the Custodial Services Supervisor, wear pager and cell phone or radio to respond to emergencies and general communication.
   
B.10% Other related Custodian Lead duties as assigned
1.Prepare reports.
2.Respond to miscellaneous requests as assigned by supervisor and/or guests/residents.
3.Complete job orders as assigned.
4.As directed and in the absence of the Custodial Services Supervisor, perform room check-out inspections and other duties related to room changes through the Assignments Office.
5.Monitor for and resolve any unsightly, unsafe or unsanitary conditions.
   
C.30%Maintenance of bathrooms.
1.Coordinate specific cleaning times with residents.
2.Clean bathroom fixtures.
3.Ensure proper functioning of vents and fixtures.
4.Wash and/or scrub shower and bathroom walls.
5.Dust mop/wet mop bathroom and shower floors.
6.Keep bathrooms supplied with paper towels, toilet paper, dispenser soap, etc.
7.Remove all trash and recycling, including waste baskets and sani cans.
   
D.10%Conference operations.
1.Major cleaning of resident rooms including spotting and washing walls and ceilings, washing furniture and windows, stripping and finishing floors.
2.Major cleaning of common areas including bathrooms, entryways, stairwells, elevators, laundry rooms, kitchenettes, etc. Vacuum, spot and extract furniture and carpeted areas.
3.Prepare guest rooms which includes special setups in common areas, set up and polish of room furniture, check phones, smoke detectors, refrigerators and air conditioners, make beds, furnish rooms with drinking glasses, kleenex, hangers, soap, towels and conference information which includes custodial request cards.
4.Provide room service which includes dust and damp mop floors, dust furniture, remove trash and recycling, make beds, remove and resupply linen and towels, clean and maintain conference bedding, resupply prep items, respond to custodial request cards, ensure room security, facilitate guest move-in/move-out, perform related duties.
   
E.5%Maintain resident living areas.
1.Communicate to House Fellows any house problems or concerns.
2.Address resident concerns, questions and requests.
3.Collaborate with residents to provide a clean and safe living environment.
4.Dust mop and wet mop stairwells, entryways and hard floors of corridors, dens, lounges and utility areas.
5.Scrub, strip, seal, wax and buff hard floor areas.
6.Bag and remove trash.
7.Vacuum, spot clean and extract carpeted areas.
8.Clean doors, elevators, windows, walls, trash/recycling areas, sink rooms and drinking fountains.
   
F.10%Maintain dens, lounges and activity areas.
1.Move/arrange furniture in compliance with activity needs.
2.Dust, vacuum, spot clean and extract furniture.
3.Vacuum, spot clean and extract carpeting.
4.Clean walls, windows and doors.
5.Bag and remove trash.
   
G.10%Other related duties as assigned.
1.Maintain house and custodial vacuum cleaners.
2.Check and clean supply and storage areas.
3.Monitor building inventories including furnishings in common areas, general supplies and linen.
4.Maintain assigned linen duties.
5.Pick-up trash and debris in outside areas surrounding the residence halls.
6.Remove snow.
7.Clean ceiling fixtures and change light bulbs.
8.Clean ceiling fixtures and change light bulbs.
9.Facilitate resident move-in/move-out.
10.Lock and unlock doors.
11.Maintain integrity of issued keys and equipment.
12.Other duties as assigned.
   
H.5%Safety.
1.Complete annual health and safety training programs.
2.Employ proper body fluid cleanup procedure.
3.Change exit lights.
4.Call in maintenance/safety requests to MARS.
5.Communicate safety procedures and concerns to residents.
6.Monitor and check fire extinguishers.
7.Ensure building safety by unpropping doors, addressing nonescorted guests, etc.
   

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Knowledge of institutional or commercial cleaning methods, techniques, cleaning chemicals, supplies and equipment.
  2. General knowledge of the tools, equipment, and setups for use with conferences.
  3. Basic knowledge of the activities and services necessary to efficiently provide services for conference activities.
