| Job Summary: | The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a research institution with an international reputation in physical sciences research and education. The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) is a research center in the Graduate School with responsibility for the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, a kilometer-scale neutrino detector at the South Pole. The detector consists of more than 5000 optical sensors deployed over one kilometer-deep in Antarctic ice. A collaboration of scientists from over thirty worldwide research institutions collectively participate in a research program to study high-energy neutrinos from cosmic sources. The collaboration uses the IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the National Science Foundation's Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station for this research program. UW-Madison is responsible to the National Science Foundation and to the IceCube collaboration for the maintenance & operation of the observatory. Details can be found at http://icecube.wisc.edu/.
This position will provide professional communications assistance for the IceCube Research Center's outreach programs and to internal and external customers. |
Goals and Worker Activities
| A. | 30% | Establish and maintain internal and external communications for the IceCube Research Center. |
| | 1. | Write, maintain and post content for IceCube blog. |
| | 2. | Assist faculty and staff with the preparation of powerpoint presentations, and other formats as needed, for outreach events and miscellaneous activities. |

| B. | 10% | Production of IceCube Research Center and IceCube on-line newsletters. |
| | 1. | Seek out and edit submission articles from authors. |
| | 2. | Construct html framework. |
| | 3. | Commission or create graphic headers. |

| C. | 10% | Conference and Event Planning. |
| | 1. | Coordinate the activities for collaboration & scientific meetings, such as schedule of events, speakers, and other activities. |
| | 2. | Coordinate volunteer participation for public events. |
| | 3. | Plan for, develop, or order necessary promotional or supplemental materials for events. |
| | 4. | Assist in the development and promotion of public education events. |

| | 1. | Design and implement graphics for print and digital use. |
