7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some flexibility with this schedule may be necessary in the event of a public health emergency.

Job Summary:Under general supervision, this position provides program support to the Communicable Disease Division's supervisory, professional, and administrative staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, understanding and use of medical terminology, entry of patient demographic, clinical, and billing data; interpreting patient history and diagnoses into the patient database; responding to requests for medical information; maintaining medical/patient records and reports; performance of routine programming tasks as needed to create reports; maintenance of peripheral equipment and inventory of computer and laboratory supplies; and participate in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines to improve administrative and/or operating effectiveness.

 

Goals and Worker Activities

A.85%Review, compile and report patient history and diagnosis into the patient database.
1.Interpret and transcribe patient history and diagnosis into various Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS) maintaining correct medical terminology. Accurate transcription is imperative as the computer record becomes the only official record after two years.
2.Report priority specimen data into computer and expedite test results. This entails recognizing priority cases and monitoring all of the steps in the process to the final result. Independently prioritize and communicate test results to appropriate staff, clinics, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
3.Report patient demographic data into computer with absolute accuracy as the computer record becomes the only official laboratory record after two years.
4.Confirm accuracy of all information by running necessary computer programs and data checks prior to specimen analysis.
5.Review, verify, and report test results into the computer system with accurate diagnosis and comments.
6.Verify and submit medical/patient reports for printing as needed.
7.File and maintain short-term and long-term storage of test requisition forms.
   
B.10%Respond to requests from physicians, clinics, and other healthcare professionals relating to medical/patient information.
1.Interpret test results accurately and professionally to physicians, clinics, and other healthcare professionals via telephone. Serve as liaison between various physicians and clinics.
2.Screen and direct telephone calls and voice messages regarding medical/patient information. Take messages accurately and communicate succinctly and promptly.
3.Communicate to clinicians the required specimen information in supposrt of CLIA'88 regulations.
4.Record and package test cases to be sent out for consultations.
5.Verify and submit medical/patient reports for printing as needed.
   
C.5%Miscellaneous duties.
