No experience required. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and research
interests in Hmong American
Studies.
Principal duties:
The Asian American Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks to hire a
tenure-track assistant professor whose scholarship and teaching focus on Hmong Americans.
Appointment begins August, 2013.
The candidate's research may be based in any field,
including humanities, arts, social sciences, community based studies, education, social work,
counseling psychology, or anthropology.
The candidate's scholarship may engage any
methodology.
The successful candidate should pursue an active research agenda, teach four
courses per year (including at least two courses on Hmong American topics), and engage actively
with the Hmong community, broadly defined.
The tenure home will reside in a department
appropriate to area of specialization; appointment will be budgeted in the Asian American Studies
Program and the tenure
home.
Additional Information:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an in-depth cultural understanding of Hmong Americans. S/he will be grounded in Hmong American issues, including social justice considerations; will be respectful of Hmong lived experiences; demonstrate an awareness of social issues facing Hmong American communities. Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to communicate in Hmong. Interest in working with Hmong American communities, in educational development and mentoring of Hmong and Asian American students on campus, and in advancing a vision to help forward long-term campus and local community desire to develop Hmong Studies is preferred.
