Degree and area of specialization:

Ph.D. in biological sciences or related field and a strong proven record of teaching and research in oncology as it relates to cancer biology. The role of this individual will be to enhance cancer initiatives within the Department of Surgery through collaboration with McArdle Laboratory. Applicants with experience in cross disciplinary research and clinical collaboration are strongly encouraged to apply.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Sustained record of professional achievement as indicated by independent, currently funded, sponsored research (R01 or R01-equivalent), high-impact publications, and demonstrated leadership activities in the field. A strong interest and commitment to mentoring at the graduate, postgraduate, and faculty level will be expected. A record of scholarship or demonstrated potential for scholarship suitable for tenure at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will be required.

Principal duties:

The Department of Surgery is seeking a faculty member to conduct basic research in cancer biology (signal transduction, cancer stem cells, cell cycle checkpoints, DNA repair pathways, genomics or related fields). The incumbent will be expected to develop novel methodologies with surgical physician collaborators. The ideal candidate must be willing to work with animal models of cancer and have the ability to lead a program project effort in cancer biology. This individual will provide clinical and classroom instruction to young faculty researchers as well as medical students, residents, and fellows in the Department of Surgery. Candidates will also oversee graduate and postgraduate fellow training and research. University and community service will be expected as appropriate.
