Teaching experience is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with strong records in teaching and research in Modern South Asian History.
Principal duties:
The Department of History at the UW-Madison invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track
faculty position beginning August 2010 at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Modern South Asian
History, in any research specialization addressing the nineteenth and/or twentieth centuries.
Applicants should hold a doctorate or anticipate its completion by the time of the
appointment. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of creativity and excellence in research. The
successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate surveys, specialized upper-division
courses and graduate seminars in the history of modern South Asia. We are particularly interested
in candidates who will actively develop our South Asian history program, while adding to the
university¿s longstanding prominence in the study of this area. Wisconsin-Madison houses the Title
VI-supported Center for South Asia, as well as the Department of Languages and Cultures of Asia, in
addition to excellent library resources for research in the area.
The candidate is
expected to perform University and community services as
appropriate.
