Degree and area of specialization:
BS in Biological Sciences. Related degree considered. MS preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
1 year experience in a research laboratory preferred. Training in cell and molecular neuroscience, preferrably through both classroom and bench based experience.
Principal duties:
The Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience Core (CMN) at the Waisman Center provides services and
specialized equipment needed to conduct studies on human and animal tissues at the cellular and
molecular level. The Research Specialist position will involve both in vivo and in vitro
investigation of the molecular and cellular processes which underlie memory and behavior. The
Research Specialist will perform cell, molecular and histologic analysis of neurons,
synaptoneurosomes and brain tissues, and be responsible for aspects of lab management, such as lab
maintenance and ordering supplies. Other duties will include obtaining and culturing neurons from
mice and rats, overseeing mouse colony and mouse breeding, performing tail clips and
genotyping.

Occasional evening and weekend
work.
