Ph.D. and a strong proven record of teaching and research in the areas of Structural Engineering. Applicants with a focus in sustainable design and sustainable construction are strongly encouraged to apply.

Sustained record of professional achievement as indicated by outstanding teaching, sponsored research and publications, and demonstrated leadership activities in the field.
Principal duties:
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department invites applications for the Chu-Kia (CK) Wang
Chair in Structural Engineering. This endowed Chair is a commitment to the continuing effort by
the Department to maintain and enhance its national prominence in undergraduate and graduate
education and research.
The CK Wang Chair will be expected to take an active role in
expanding on the current research program in structural engineering and developing new initiatives.
The Chair will also be expected to interact with on-going campus-wide research activities and
research centers, and have a major role in the enhancement and use of current laboratory
facilities.
The position requires instruction in undergraduate and graduate coursework, in
addition to interdisciplinary and interdepartmental research. The successful candidate is expected
to strengthen and capitalize on strong ties with industry, institutions and government agencies,
and to become a nationally and internationally recognized individual. The faculty member will also
be expected to participate in faculty governance and participate in department, university,
professional, and public service.
The UW-Madison campus is located in the heart of the city
of Madison that offers an unsurpassed vibrant living and learning community
(http://www.uc.wisc.edu/slideshow/slideshow.html). The Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering currently has 28 full-time faculty members with more than 9 million in research
expenditures in FY 2008 and has an active graduate and research program. The Department's graduate
program has been ranked 13th among the top programs in Civil Engineering in 2008 by the U.S. News
and World Report (http://www.usnews.com). Several opportunities for collaboration and sponsored
research exist through state and federally funded research programs and centers such as the
Wisconsin Highway Research Program (http://www.wistrans.org/cfire), the Construction and Materials
Support center
(http://cmsc.engr.wisc.edu/).
