Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. in Islamic Studies or adjunct field with a specialization in Islamic scriptural literature and interpretation.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Knowledgeable about the Qur'an, hadith, tafsir, and other relevant legal and literary works.
Working command of a relevant language in addition to Arabic is desirable. Candidates for tenured
appointment must have record of excellence in teaching and scholarly
research.
Principal duties:
Teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in home department and the Religious Studies Program, including rotations in Religious Studies 600: Religion in Critical Perspective. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in scholarly research, teaching and service relative to time since degree.
Additional Information:
Candidate's tenure home will be established in a department appropriate to his or her background and qualifications.
