Degree and area of specialization:
PhD in a relevant scientific field, such as Plant Biology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Genetics or Biochemistry.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
The ideal candidate will have had 5 or more years of demonstrated innovation & productivity in plant developmental biology. Preference will be given to persons with expertise in one or more of the core research areas associated with the Patterson lab; (1) cell cell adehesion, (2) secretory pathyway or membrane trafficking, (3) floral organ abscission, (4) cell wall & cell division, & (5) hormone signaling. Extensive experience with microscopy & molecular biology required. Problem-solving ability in the execution of the above expertise areas required. Ability to work as a team member along with written & spoken presentation skills required.
Principal duties:
This position will provide innovation, leadership & lab management for ongoing research projects
indicated above in the Patterson laboratory. Specifically, this person will design research
methodologies, provide guidance & problem solving for lab members as well as conduct independent
research on secretory proteins.
In addition, this position will be responsible for
publishing research in one or more of the areas indicated in the area of relevant work experience
category above. This position will have the responsibility for developing & fostering high-value
collaborations. Supervision of junior staff members & graduate students will be
required.
