Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelors Degree in molecular, cellular, developmental biology or related field is required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
1-3 years of research laboratory experience working in the area of molecular, cellular or developmental biology. Experience working in cell culture as well as basic molecular, cellular and biochemistry assays, such as DNA/RNA preparation and analysis, Western Blotting, ELISA, cell proliferation and apoptosis is required. Animal handling techniques are a plus.
Principal duties:
The Department of Surgery, Division of Peripheral Vascular Surgery, is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a new and exciting research team to study the molecular mechanisms of vascular diseases. The purpose of this NIH-funded research is to identify critical factors for pathogenesis of restenosis or aneurysms and to develop novel treatments for these diseases. This position will oversee laboratory operations to include but are not limited to: maintaining instruments and monitoring their functions; assume a lead role in handling transgenic animals and genotyping; conducting experiments; reviewing and recommending literature to design appropriate research methodologies, techniques, and procedures; and contribute as co-author and/or edit research proposals for animal care approval. In addition, this position will have some supervisory responsibilities towards fellows, students and other staff within the laboratory.
Additional Information:
Strong organizational and communication skills are essential. The willingness to learn new research techniques as well as the ability to handle research animals are important.
