Principal duties:
We are looking for a systems administrator to join the Condor Project, an open source, cutting-edge
project at the UW Dept of Computer Sciences that develops and supports distributed computing
solutions to enable scientists to perform compute-intensive research. The successful candidate
will join a team of system administrators responsible for the administration of Linux machines used
for software development and scientific computing. Help us maintain multiple Linux compute
clusters in labs across the campus; currently we maintain nearly 5,000 CPU cores and half a
petabyte of disk! Condor Project software is distributed with distributions such as Fedora and
Red Hat, and used world-wide. We have no shortage of interesting problems to challenge a system
administrator ranging from high-capacity data center planning, development and automation of
cluster monitor scripts, equipment planning and purchasing, virtual machine deployments, network
layout and much more. You will gain a wide range of skills at this job. In addition to
maintaining our computing facilities, this employee will also provide support for the Center for
High Throughput Computing (CHTC). The CHTC provides support to science research groups across
campus who need help deploying, configuring, and maintaining Linux systems and related scientific
software. If you love Linux and enjoy using your skills to enable people pushing the frontiers of
science in areas such as chemical engineering, biology, and high energy physics, this is the job
for you.

desktops including provisioning of new hardware, installation and maintenance of system software,
preserving system/network security, analysis of system logs to identify potential problems/issues,
