PhD and background/expertise relevant to Geological Engineering required
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Senior level geo-professional with strong research program and distinguished record for creative research and scholarship. Must be committed to both undergraduate and graduate instruction along with a vigorous research program. Must have leadership and development skills needed to direct the Geological Engineering Program. An outstanding reputation in the field of specialty is a primary requirement.
Principal duties:
Develop and maintain innovative graduate research programs on technological problems that are
relevant to the needs of the profession and of society. Provide leadership for the Geological
Engineering Program. Participate in undergraduate and graduate instruction in the areas of
technical competence. Participate in faculty governance. Participate in department, university,
professional, and public service.
Specialty areas of primary research interest include (but
are not limited to): assessment and mitigation of geologic hazards; exploration, extraction, and
management of mineral, energy, and water resources; environmental site characterization and
remediation; design and assessment of waste repositories, design and stabilization of foundations,
tunnels, mines and earth structures on ground surface or in the subsurface; soil and/or rock
mechanics, geochemistry of natural and engineered environments; sustainability engineering in
geotechnic.
