Degree and area of specialization:
Required: Bachelors degree in sociology, social work, public health communications, psychology or health related field is required. Preferred: A Masters degree in a related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Required: At least four years experience with research project and administrative managment; familiarity with clinical research; experience collaborating with physicians and health care providers; strong analytical and writing skills; ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically in written and verbal forms with research sponsors, faculty, researchers, and staff at all levels, and ability to develop and monitor budgets.
Principal duties:
Specific RPM1 duties in support of Health Service Research include project management and
monitoring of all health services initiatives and participation in the development and
implementation of new health services projects and initiatives:
- Meet with academic
investigators and community organization staff to participate in project development including
determining research plans, staff, budget needs, to report project progress and to participate in
research dissemination, etc.
- Serve as a liaison with investigators and community
organization staff for project implementation, to assure satisfactory progress, and to assist the
identification and resolution of project impediments and revisions.
- Manage and monitor the
Health Services Research team, including recruitment, team development, supervision, assigning
tasks and scheduling, resolving issues, and staff evaluation. Team members may include
researchers, research specialists, research assistants, interns, etc.
- Prepare and lead
regular team meetings to manage projects and initiatives. This includes documenting progress,
identifying and resolving issues, and planning work assignments.
- Ensure that program
activities and expenditures are in compliance with the terms of grants, granting agencies, the
University of Wisconsin, etc.
- Initiate the development of protocols with the principal
investigator. Assist with development and submission of research grant proposals. Supply
information for and assist with progress reports, posters, manuscripts and abstracts.

Participate in operations and strategic planning meetings and in reporting for the Center for Urban
Population Health supporting the mission and vision of the Center.
- Provide
direction/coordination with peer researchers and scientists who work within the Health Services
Initiatives program area.
Other duties complimentary to the RPMI's primary role may be
assigned as appropriate. These may include management of quality improvement programs and
providing research expertise. Initially these duties include:
- Day-to-day management of
the Milwaukee sites of the "Wisconsin Initiative to Promote Healthy Living (WIPHL) program. WIPHL
is intended to reduce substance abuse and consequences in communities and build prevention capacity
and infrastructure locally and at the state level.
- Providing research expertise to Center
Health Services research related projects in the RPMI's area of expertise and interest (i.e.
epidemiology, psychology,
etc.).
Additional Information:
The Health Services Research Program Manager (RPMI) administers and provides professional expertise in support of the program of Health Services projects and initiatives at the Center for Urban Population Health located in Milwaukee, WIsconsin. The RPMI reports to the Research Program Manager II with matrix reporting responsibility to the Associate Director for Health Services Initiatives for the Center for Urban Population Health.
