PhD required (any discipline), with specialization in African Diaspora Studies.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Previous research and teaching experience at the college/university level required, extent of experience dependent on rank.
Principal duties:
Duties include teaching and research in African diaspora studies and active collaborative work in
the African Diaspora Cluster and the African Diaspora and the Atlantic World Research Circle at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison. The successful candidate will be a full and active member of his
or her home department.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks candidates for a new
faculty position in the field of African diaspora studies. Appointment to begin August 24th, 2009.
The committee is seeking a scholar, irrespective of discipline, of assistant, associate, or full
professor rank, whose primary specialization lies in some aspect of African diaspora studies,
focusing upon the linkages between African diasporic communities and Africa, the dynamics of the
forced or voluntary migration that led to the creation of these communities, their interactions and
relations with societies of encounter, and the adaptation, reproduction and transformation of
African institutional, cultural and expressive forms in diasporic settings. The committee
particularly welcomes applications from candidates in anthropology, political science, sociology,
geography, or related social science fields. This position is part of the African Diaspora faculty
cluster at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
University and community service will be
expected as
appropriate.
