The laboratory's research has extended to understand how electrical stimulation of the brain can ease the suffering and disability caused by neurological and psychiatric disorders. Brain stimulations, such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), are remarkable therapies and succeed when all manner of other treatments, including brain transplants and gene therapy fail or provide insufficient benefit. The expectation of this research is that a greater understanding of DBS will help improve this therapy and make it useful for a larger range of neurological and psychiatric disorders.
