Epidemiologist/Program Evaluator

Degree and area of specialization:

Masters degree in epidemiology, population health, sociology, psychology, economics, or relevant discipline required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

At least 2 years of successful and relevant research experience in population health or related area working with health-related data. Experience using computer software packages for statistical analysis (i.e., SAS, SPSS, or STATA) and for generation of charts and graphs (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint). Experience working with large data sets and weighted data helpful. Substantive research interest and expertise in program evaluation research and/or tobacco/cancer control programs is desirable. Good verbal and written communication skills.

Principal duties:

The University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center (UWCCC) seeks a researcher to support its Cancer Control Research program. This position will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to contribute to the mission of Tobacco Surveillance and Evaluation Program (Directed by Dr. Patrick Remington), and to participate in a program of tobacco epidemiology and evaluation funded by the Wisconsin Division of Public Health. This position will support the lead epidemiologist to develop and implement relevant program surveillance and evaluation studies. Specific duties include analyze data from a variety of data sets and surveillance systems; conduct literature reviews to support research projects; organize data and integrate with research and write conclusive reports. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to: development of detailed work plans and time lines for collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative survey data, development of survey instruments, sample communities and conduct site visits, share program research findings with statewide tobacco programs, oversee development of databases, and contribute to the development of proposals to support tobacco-related research. Opportunities exist for publication and presentation of research findings. The researcher will work closely with staff and graduate students, with colleagues in other research programs throughout the University, and with colleagues at the Wisconsin Division of Public Health.
