Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Two years experience in a professional environment supporting servers and
workstations.
Required: computer hardware/software support experience; demonstrated
knowledge of Windows and Macintosh desktop applications and operating systems; demonstrated ability
to work independently and collaboratively; good oral and written communication
skills.
Desired: experience managing Linux servers, preferably Debian; demonstrated ability
to support Web authoring systems; experience with tools that support delivery of dynamic Web
content (e.g., MySQL, PHP, Apache2); experience with centralized management systems like OS X
Server (AFP, NetBoot and Radmind) and Windows 2003 Server (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Kerberos);
experience in support of an educational computer laboratory, preferably in a library
environment.
Principal duties:
The Information Processing Consultant/InfoLab Operations Manager works closely with and reports to
the Library Director to provide consultation, training, and assistance for undergraduates, faculty
and staff at College Library and in the Computer and Media Center (CMC). The IPC provides primary
support for the College Library web, print, DHCP, DNS and image servers.
The position
maintains and supports multiple web and stand-alone applications on several Linux servers, and
performs the installation, maintenance and replacement of these servers. The IPC works with
internal and external clients in the development of new database-driven web
applications.
The position will supervise InfoLab (College Library CMC) operations including
hardware and software maintenance on Macintosh and Windows workstations, formulation and
implementation of CMC and Division of Information Technology policies and programs, development and
implementation of student consultant training programs and provision of advanced consulting
services to lab patrons (faculty, staff and students). In addition, the position will perform
global website maintenance, monitor and introduce new technologies to library staff, develop
software policies and training programs for library staff and assist library instruction staff in
incorporating new technologies into their
teaching.
Additional Information:
College Library serves as the primary library for first- and second-year students and specializes in providing information services to those who are new to academic research. The library is a heavily used, dynamic environment that supports both the academic and recreational interests of students and includes a café, a large computer lab, and 24-hour service five nights a week during regular semester sessions.
