Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum two years experience preparing effective, market-oriented communications is required. Previous experience with successfully promoting and supporting educational programs is highly desirable. Demonstrated competencies should include creation and development of high-impact print and Web-based communications. Position requires a creative, decisive, organized self-starter, capable of working on multiple concurrent assignments with minimal supervision in a team environment. Requires proficiency in use of word processing and document publishing software, including Word and Acrobat Professional, to prepare and collaboratively edit documents. Previous experience using and supporting electronic document management, course management systems, and innovative Web communication strategies/methods is desirable. Experience with creating and editing scripts for promotional videos would be a plus.
Principal duties:
The Editor develops communications in support of the Master of Engineering Graduate Distance Degree
programs offered by the Department of Engineering Professional Development in cooperation with
other departments in the College of Engineering. These programs serve adult, graduate engineering
students studying at a distance via Web-based instructional methods.
The Editor will work with
program directors and other staff to develop and produce print, and electronic communications that
help to recruit new students, support instruction, inform existing students and alumni, and promote
the programs to various audiences. Programs supported by this position are described at:

Specific tasks include:
Work with
program directors and staff to develop effective communication strategies to recruit, inform and
support students.
Work in collaboration with graphic designers and web developers to design
and produce high-impact brochures, bulletins and web resources to enable programs to recruit
engineers to apply for admission to programs
Assist faculty and instructional designers in
developing print, Web, and audio/video course instructional materials.
Assist and
collaborate with other editorial staff to meet Department objectives and
deadlines.
Prepare and distribute news releases and articles that highlight
accomplishments of program faculty, students and staff
Creatively identify, pursue and
support other communication needs to build recognition, enrollment, and quality of the Department
and its programs.
