Degree and area of specialization:
BS in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
1-3 years experience in a lab setting is required. Prior experience with tissue culture, antibody staining, RNA isolation, and QPCR is preferred.
Principal duties:
The Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation is seeking a research specialist to grow and
analyze human embryonic stem cell lines as part of the National Stem Cell Bank. The laboratory is
focused on differentiation of human ES cells to pancreatic islet cells. The primary duties will be
to grow cell lines deposited to the National Stem Cell Bank and assess their pancreatic
differentiation potential, as well as determine the effects of protocol modifications. Assessment
will be performed primarily by real time PCR and immunohistochemistry. The successful applicant
will be energetic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated, will have excellent organizational skills, and
will be capable of working with little directions.
Occasional weekend work will be required
on an as-needed basis for cell culture
experiments.
