Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Required:
Three years or more years' experience working with either MS SQL Server or Oracle in
conjunction with large database projects. This includes hands on experience with acquisition of
datasets from third parties (or from sensor/technical systems).
Knowledge of data warehouse ETL
and data cleaning techniques.
Preferred:
Additional experience with statistical analysis
applications and data reporting tools a plus.
Familiarity with data quality and data governance
procedures a
plus.
Principal duties:
The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and management of database
application tasks for the Value-Added Research Center (VARC). VARC is a compilation of 17 different
grants whose shared mission is to build collaborative relationships with educational entities to
improve student learning. This involves the efforts of numerous UW faculty and scientists.. Since
VARC's inception it has been awarded federal, state and private funding in excess of $5
million.
The incumbent will act as a consultant and provide data collection design and data
warehouse system recommendations to faculty and staff from a number of scholarly fields -
including, Economics, Educational Leadership, Organizational Behavior, Sociology, Political
Science, Cognitive Psychology, and Industrial Engineering.
The encumbent will coordinate of
data base application with entities external to WCER. The data manager would routinely work with
district and state educational agency research offices. The data manager will be expected to
contribute to the writing of grant deliverables on data systems and present at regional and annual
meetings. These meetings are attended by academics, district project managers and superintendents.
The successful candidate will develop and manage VARC's non-database information
technology and manage the raw data files, Extract ,Transform, and Load (ETL) resources, analytic
(intermediate) data files, analytic script files (e.g., SAS code, R, SPSS scripts), and reporting
tools (e.g., excel files); and, development of project meta-data schema.
