BSN Required.

License/certification:

Current Registered Nurse License for the State of Wisconsin is required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minimum one year nursing experience. Strong interest in clinical research.

Hepatitis B vaccination or proof of prior vaccination will be required at the time of employment. Patient contact will require annual TB skin test.

Principal duties:

The Genitourinary (GU) Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) must have a high degree of clinical expertise with a specific focus on the treatment of patients with anticancer agents and a specialized nursing competence in the field of Oncology Research.

Responsibilities Include:

Provide patient nursing care, including symptom management, toxicity documentation and support for psychosocial aspects of the treatment.

Coordinate the clinical testing of GU chemotherapy agents. Collaborate with all members of the GU team to meet the research goals and expectations. Act to maximize the scientific and clinical outcomes of each protocol and provide clinical leadership for organized responses to meet anticipated program needs.

Responsible for daily conduction of the GU research activities, including sharing of skills and knowledge with the patient, their families, hospital staff and community.

Determine, analyze and intervene to meet the specialized educational needs of patients and their families participating on GU clinical trials.

Adhere to quality assurance aspects of the GU program as established by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and/or pharmaceutical companies.

The Nurse Specialist is expected to follow the policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards for excellence and professionalism established by the UWCCC and the University of Wisconsin. Additionally, this position will assure that all clinical and laboratory research activity adheres to Federal, University of Wisconsin, and UWCCC policies, procedures and requirements.

A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.
