Degree and area of specialization:
M.D. or D.O and/or Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree. If practicing M.D. or D.O., board certification or eligibility in the candidate's field of medical expertise will be required.
License/certification:
If candidate will practice medicine as a UWSMPH faculty member, Wisconsin medical licensure is required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
The successful candidate will hold or be eligible for an appointment as a faculty member at the rank of tenured Associate Professor or Professor in the School of Medicine and Public Health. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the area of public health is required. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a history of experience in highly collaborative organizations.
Principal duties:
The Associate Dean for Public Health will provide oversight and direction for the development and
integration of public health into all missions of the School of Medicine and Public Health. The
Associate Dean will provide leadership, guidance and assistance to Deans, Chairs, and Center
Directors as this integration is incorporated into all units within the School. This is a
full-time position with an initial term of three years. The successful candidate will also have
the opportunity to maintain his or her own program of individual scholarship in a relevant academic
department(s). This Limited position reports to the Dean and will work closely and collaboratively
with the Senior Associate Deans for Academic Affairs, Administration, Clinical and Translational
Research, Clinical Affairs, and Research and Graduate Studies, to focus on the following:
Assume a key leadership role in the transformation of the School into an integrated School
of Medicine and Public Health.
Provide leadership in the development of the expanding public
health research profile.
Provide leadership and coordination of existing public health
activities; determine appropriate opportunities for new program development.
Act as primary
contact with School and campus public health resources.
Coordinate academic activities at
the SMPH with the state-wide public health community.
Work closely with other Senior
Associate/Associate Deans, particularly in the areas of Academic Affairs, Clinical and
Translational Research, and Faculty Development to support integration of public health into those
areas.
Serve as a liaison between the Dean's Office and key partners in the transformation.
Serve to facilitate the SMPH's efforts to assist in ameliorating the most critical health
problems consistent with SMPH capabilities and mission.
Serve as an advocate for public
health.
Participate in the Wisconsin Partnership Program including active membership on
the appropriate governance committees.
Participate in research, teaching and service as a
tenured faculty member at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison.
