Principal duties:
Principal duties:
Under the general direction of the department chair, the Director of Business
Services for the Department of Urology will provide overall administrative leadership for the
operational, financial, and human resource functions for the clinical, educational, research, and
service components of the department. The Director will act as a member of the department
leadership team to ensure operational excellence and coordination across the entire departmental
enterprise to ensure financial stability and long-term success.
Responsibilities
include:
1. Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of all the department's resources and
integrate this data into recommendations for program planning and development.
2. With the chair
and faculty leadership, lead the implementation of financial and programmatic development
strategies within the department.
3. Develop and manage all department budgets including funds
from the School of Medicine and Public Health, the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation and
the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
4. Oversee the departmental use of all funds,
including but not limited to SMPH, UWMF, UWHC, research and development, grant, gifts, in-kind, UW
Foundation and practice income funds.
5. Create, review, revise and implement departmental
administrative operating procedures.
6. Under the direction of the chair, monitor faculty
activities and recommend appropriate funding sources and funding levels according to the
department's mission.
7. Direct the development and maintenance of appropriate information
systems and services to support the programmatic needs of the department and to ensure appropriate
financial and human resources record keeping as needed
8. Plan and implement ongoing
departmental self-evaluation initiatives and manage the operational aspects of external reviews in
accordance with School and University guidelines.
9. Serve as a member of appropriate
departmental committees and provide guidance with respect to fiscal and human resources
issues.
10. Actively participate in faculty recruitment through assessment of department needs
and negotiations with other UW and SMPH units as
needed
