Degree and area of specialization:
BA /BS required, master's preferred, in Library Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, other Social Science or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Required -
A. Advanced organizational skills: ability to visualize and implement ideal
arrangements of information in order to suit the needs of the system, administrators, and everyday
users and familiarity with hierarchical and normalized organization of information and experience
with metadata standards.
B. Experience with web-based technologies using html, css and
JavaScript.
C. Exceptional social skills: ability to work patiently, persistently, and
enthusiastically; ability to work as part of a team of researchers; ability to work with
participants from many areas of academia, administration, and public education, optimizing their
experience with knowledge management; and, ability to identify different backgrounds and learning
styles, adapting support strategies accordingly.
Preferred - Knowledge and experience with
collaboration technologies such as SharePoint. Exposure to interface design, development and
testing including principles of user-centered web design and usability, browsers,
etc.
Principal duties:
Technical Services for the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) is seeking a highly motivated and uniquely skilled individual to fill a critical role as knowledge manager and collaboration facilitator. Many of WCER's research projects involve partners and sites from across the country that need to contribute to and easily access a centralized, web-based repository of information. The person in this role will be vital to our effort to encourage and facilitate collaboration. The incumbent will use an enterprise grade knowledge management system to input, organize, maintain and make available to our user groups a wide variety of information and artifacts. The incumbent will assist in development and implementation of a knowledge management strategy based on collaboration technology, working proactively to encourage the use of this system; provide support with patience and enthusiasm to a variety of users; maintain a complex knowledge system; and, assist researchers and other staff members of varying technical abilities to use collaborative technologies and with any other organizational activities.
