Degree and area of specialization:
Minimum of a Bachelors degree in business, health care administration, or social service field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum of 3 years management experience, including supervision of
staff and budget development,
preferably in a healthcare setting. Experience in mental health or social services
preferred.
Principal duties:
As a principal academic staff member of the Department of Psychiatry administrative team, the
Clinic Manager is responsible for the
operations of the Department of Psychiatry's outpatient
clinics.
Assist Program Director, Medical Director, and training directors with
organizational planning and implementation of clinical and academic programs.
Undertake
analysis and provide advice and recommendations to improve daily clinic operations and enhance
long-range clinic development. Provide leadership for faculty, residents, and staff in needs
analysis, problem-solving, planning, resource identification and allocation, and policy
interpretation.
Supervise a staff of 18 in the UW Department of Psychiatry Outpatient
Clinic, coordinating support services and overseeing billing, scheduling, medical records
(including EMR implementation), and Intake functions.
Serve as contact person for clinic
renovations and on-going improvements.
Ensure compliance with federal and state laws
concerning the conduct of medical care, release and management of clinical information, and billing
third party providers. Coordinate with UWHC and UWMF compliance officers as well as UW Legal
Services. Develop and maintain clinic-wide policies and procedures to meet these and other
requirements.
Oversee provider credentialing and participate in faculty and provider
recruitment. Determine provider staffing levels based on clinical demands, teaching requirements,
and care needs.
Generate management reports of clinical activity and clinical finances.
Analyze utilization and operational data and present recommendations to Department
leadership.
On a daily basis, engage in problem-solving faculty, resident and patient
complaints and questions related to the provision of and access to clinical care. Serve as patient
rights advocate resource and ensure that all complaints obtain resolution through UWHC or UWMF
patient relations departments.
Serve as principal staff to the Psychiatry Quality Assurance
Committee. Develop agendas and work plans, as well as provide recommendations for improvement and
for the development of clinic policy. Disseminate and implement recommendations arising from
audits as directed by the Committee.
Work directly with training directors to enhance all
trainees¿ educational experience while providing excellent clinical care. Provide clinic
orientation for trainees and new clinical staff.
Coordinate services and programs with the
UW Hospital and Clinics, the UW Medical Foundation, Meriter Hospital, the School of Medicine and
Public Health, and the UWMF Behavioral Health Consultation System.
Ensure adequacy and
efficiency of billing operations, including coding, referral management, encounter control
management. Conduct or arrange documentation audits periodically to ensure compliance with
billing, clinical, and legal regulations. Successfully resolve billing and benefits
interpretation issues with
insurers.
