Degree and area of specialization:
Master's degree required in statistics, biostatistics, public health, or related field with an emphasis in biostatistics; Relevant coursework or minor in computer science preferred; Relevant coursework in research methods desirable
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum of one to two years demonstrated experience in biostatistics; Skills in organizing a complex workload, in interacting with multiple constituencies, and in scientific writing for presentation and publication; Demonstrated ability ot collaborate in research study design and analysis; Ability to apply statistical data processing techniques, summarize results, produce reports and presentations, and participate in dissemination; Interest in advancing state-of-the-art research methods including advances regression models, latent growth cure modeling, hierarchical models and smoothing, meta-analysis and GIS; Experience in working with diverse databases and data structures is highly desired (e.g. Oracle, SQL, Access); Competency in use and application of statistical software packages (e.g. SAS, Stata, SPSS)
Principal duties:
This position will support a program of population health research and initiatives at the Center
for Urban Population Health located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The biostatistician will collaborate
with faculty, scientist, healthcare providers, fellows, residents, and other research staff in
developing and applying statistical methodology, performing data analysis, assisting in database
development, and participating in the dissemination of findings. The position will be a member of
the Design and Analysis Core for the Center and will have matrix reporting responsibilities to the
Director of Fellowship Research for the Comprehensive Cardiovascular Care Group (CCCG). The Center
for Urban Population Health is a research collaboration of the University of Wisconsin School of
Medicine and Public Health, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Aurora Health Care,
Inc.
Duties include:
1. Study design and implementation:
- Propose and implement
general analysis strategies and specific statistical techniques appropriate for the sample design
and suitable for the analytical goals;
- Implement statistical analysis plans through writing
statistical programming;
- Identify and acquire various data sets and integrate relevant data
for analysis;
- Assist in the development of standardized programs and their refinement;
and
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of standardized HIPAA compliant
data protocols for protected health information privacy and security.
2. Provide
biostatistics consulting, collaborative support, and education for population health research
involving faculty, fellows including CCCG, residents, other researchers, and community
partners:
- Collaborate with health care providers, researchers, other researchers, and
community partners;
- Provide continuous feedback to the clinical and research groups;

Mentor fellows, faculty, and researchers around sample design and analysis strategies; and

Present educational sessions on design strategies and statistical techniques, as
appropriate.
3. Participate in research submissions and dissemination:
- Contribute to
the development of grant submissions and contracts; and
- Prepare reports, collaborate on
manuscripts, and present clinical/research findings through publications and
presentations.
4. Assist with research database development'/programming and acquisition,
monitoring data conversion/integration, and data documentation in collaboration with the
Information Technology Core of the Center.
5. Serve as a lead project statistician providing
oversight to other research staff as appropriate for activities including data entry and data
cleaning.
6. Perform other related duties, as
appropriate.
