License/certification:

If not board certified, the applicant must be eligible for certification by the the American Board of Radiology/Medical Physics and shall achieve Commission on Accrediation of Medical Physicist certification status within 3 years of appointment.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

1-2 years experience in clinical and research environment in a radiotherapy program with the following interest and emphasis: physical and radiobiological beam modeling; intensity modulated, image and dose-guided radiation therapy; treatment optimization schemes; routine radiotherapy physics services; radionuclide based therapies including high and low dose rate brachytherapy and radiopharmaceutical therapies; teaching and coordination of graduate student and allied health personnel. Experience with 3D TPS systems and TomoTherapy is essential.

Principal duties:

This position is primarily for outreach services at our UW affiliated Wisconsin Rapids radiotherapy facility (UW Cancer Center - Riverview). Selected candidate may be required to locate in the area of Wisconsin Rapids.

Research:
This medical physicist performs research by testing imaging, simulations, treatment planning, delivery devices to measure and acquire data according to the protocols established by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. The data acquisition requires the knowledge of advanced instrumentation such as ion chamber, solid state detectors, film and TL dosimetry and related software applications. Data acquisition and research analysis also requires advance technology knowledge of the data base systems such as Aria, Mossaic. Research results are routinely presented at scientific meetings and conventions.

Principal clinical duties:
Educational efforts: Coordinate efforts and participate in training of medical physics students, nurses, therapists, dosimetrists, residents and others in HDR & RT processes, delivery and planning.

Clinical services:
Perform and review all aspects of radiotherapy patient and equipment related planning and quality assurance. Assist dosimetrists and physicians in special physics consultation to evaluate feasibility of IMRT delivery; assist therapists (and supervise) in patient set-up and treatment delivery. Perform all aspects of radionuclide and brachytherapy related physics services. Coordinate TLD/In-Vivo dosimetry services. Image guidance: assess image guidance capabilities of the imaging systems; image quality, registration, set up corrections.

Specific services:
- Dosimetry plan checks, first treatment set up, weekly physics radiation cumulative radiation delivery review.
- Chart review, chart rounds and tumor board participation.
- Equipment calibration and measurements, equipment troubleshooting.
- On-call and responding as the primary contact for radiation therapy equipment repair/maintenance issues.
- Attend Department, Cancer Center Operational, hospital orientation, and compliance meetings.
- Supervise and perform evaluation reviews of physics and dosimetry staff.
- Attend radiation safety meetings and radiological/nuclear disaster committee meetings.
- IT coordinator for radiation therapy.
- Vendor coordination for radiation therapy equipment and software.
- Program development involving new technology, upgrades, new equipment, and market advancement.
- Radionuclide and brachytherapy services support, radiation incident follow up, procedural changes, state reporting, Federal and state regulatory awareness, site visits, reporting, inspections, and incident follow up.
- Clinical trials - review, input, monitoring, team coordination.
- Interaction with radiology department on behalfl of radiation therapy.

Radiation Oncology at Wisconsin Rapids is equipped with one Tomotherapy planning and delivery Unit.
